"Murderous malicious moon machines"

Films: Moontrap (1989)

Alias: None

Type: Alien

Location: Eldritch location/Haunted home

Height/Weight: Ranges from that of small dogs to tanks.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: Something shiny is on the dark side of the moon. Something shiny, metallic, and very, very evil...

History: Millenia ago, an ancient humanoid civilization on the moon was eradicated. The perpetrator of their extinction were the Kaalium, a race of self-replicating robots known for putting themselves together out of whatever they can find, wherever they can find it. And apparently, nothing is more thrilling to these machines than using human body parts to improve themselves. Now, the Kaalium have a moon expedition under hostage, and they're planning to take Earth at long last...

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: Many Kaalium are gunned down and otherwise destroyed, but the final killing blow seems to be when a man and the last of the ancient civilization manage to cause the mothership to self-destruct. A pity that one of the Kaalium survived and landed in a junkyard, but who's to say it’ll get very far alone? If anything, when the inevitable junkyard scavengers arrive, it's good as dead.

Powers/Abilities: The Kaalium can assimilate any piece and/or part, and claim it as their own. They also mostly fire electric lasers.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 4-To these imposing cyborgs, everything is a spare part. Yes, even YOUR parts. They may not be the unstoppable killing machines that Skynet produces, but they still pack a punch design and power-wise.

Trivia: -A sequel has long been in the works, with the creators even hosting a failed fundraiser for a graphic novel that they could adapt into one. One planned sequel was called "Moontrap 2: The Pyramids of Mars". A sequel did get made, called "Moontrap Target Earth", but it makes its predecessor look bad, so ignore it!

-The VHS version of this film is longer in Japan, but only because of extended dialogue scenes.

And it can wait a few more for this film to come out of obscurity.

Braniac's loser brother had a smaller, but no less disturbing collection.
